The Oscars, somehow, reminded me that I used to do movie reviews... (and also that I should check out some of the mentioned films) and I havent really done that in the last year... so since I just saw Shutter Island today, I'll do a little tidbit just to get myself back onto it.
Visuals: very nice. suspense is perfect to the T. Scorsese does not fail to impress
Story: in hindsight, amazing. during, one was too confused to feel that way XD <- which just shows how good it is. Once you know the ending, the different scenes made enough of an impact that you can recall them and piece together the puzzle too =)
Music: good music, but too much. Some parts the music was SO loud and SO unnecessary, but maybe that was done on purpose, considering the ending result... though during it was rather annoying bordering comical
Acting: It's Leo. It's Kingsley. We don't have any failures in this department. superb.
Overall: 8.5/10 (points off because I was confused way too much during + the music)
Next up: Alice in Wonderland XD - once again, hyped up, but Tim Burton shouldn't disappoint. heheh

Terminator: Salvation
Not as good as the hype suggested, or as good as I expected (from being a fan of the previous terminator movies)... so slightly disappointing.
The movie seemed to have fed on "suspense" points where you jump back as a metallic being appears behind the main character... gets old after a while...
I rlly disliked christian bale in this role... too much batman ambiance -.- absolutely hated the wife... we don't need any wide-eyed, permanent mascara-eyed (even though we're in war zone where even food is scarce) innocent girl -.-
However, I LUVED kyle reese character (heheh also very cute), LUVED the marcus character too (too bad he has to die "for the greater good"), and the pilot girl (the story line between these characters was FAR more interesting than the john connor thing -.- Here is the saving (or savalation teehee) grace.
Special effects were superb, as they should be - or else it wouldn't be a modern film. nothing too awe-inspiring.
Out of the four movies (star trek, wolverine, angels and demons, terminator), I will put this as the worst (even more so than wolverine?? yawr cuz I expected less from wolverine and it still delivered... I don't hold well w/ disappointment =( ...)
Recommended? Sure if you're a terminator fan... but really if you had to pick, go with the other choices =P

Angels and Demons
It was better than expected (FAR superior to Da Vinci Code - but that's not saying much).
It followed the action plot of the book VERY closely - which was a smart move (since the book was awesome)... lost some of the personal depth that was present in the book, but it's understandable considering the running time - and managed to be entertaining while still presenting the message (without TOO MUCH of the watered down, middle-of-the-road lack of intensity)
Some of the dialogue seemed awkward (omg Tom Hanks... what happened -.-) and there was a tad bit too much explanation for it to seem normal (it was okay in the book, since ... well it's a book about stuff most people don't know/care to know about, so tons of explanation is necessary)... It's tolerable.
Action bits: Tom Hanks - not bad. There were bits that made me flinch, as intended, so kudos to that.
I dont know if this is a fault, but the movie gave me a slight emotional attachment to the Catholic faith. I suppose it put the priests/vaticans on a more personal level than I am used to. I rather appreciate that.
One thing I felt was weak: the movie was covered in Ron Howard's let's all agree and not hurt anyone's feelings movie-making agenda. But it can't be helped... and it still managed to pull through decent, good job.
I recommend it. Slightly less than highly. But definitely worth watching.

Star Trek
I love it; it's epic.
Very snazzy graphics, to be expected.
Spock is awesome, hawt, and so mine =P ::SIZZLE:: XD
"I'm going to be monitoring your frequencies." - HAWT line =P
XDDD HIGHLY recommended even for non-trekkies (which I used to be before this movie haha XD)

Zeitgeist
So I've just watched the Zeitgeist, which is a Really good movie.
It talks about some of the conspiracies, focusing mostly in USA today... I've heard about some of them and I've written them off as dumb ideas that are obviously too absurd to be true... surely? Everyone around me, peers and teachers... have laughed them off as stupid ideas that cannot be true... using the same strain as thought as I do...
but.
the world really is going to hell in a handbasket... and I feel absolutely dumbfounded from the lack of knowledge and understanding that I have for the world around me... the media is even more of a brainwasher than I had previously thought... the world painted in the immediate future is absolutely scary. crazy and yet no one seems to be aware of it... soon we will welcome it with open arms. it is so fucked up. Why is the public - the American public mostly - being blind to this? This is really fucked up. I hope, sincerely, that none of the stuff shown in the Zeitgeist is true... but I feel that wishful thinking is the sin on my part. it's disgusting. the controllers of our nations ... worlds of democracy, free will, rights and liberties, all that beautiful stuff our forefathers have fought and died for... are bringing us to our knees... our economies, societies. yet we see nothing past the blinding propaganda of modern media... "you've got to get mad. you've got to say... I'm a human being goddamnit, my life has value!" ... it's so fucking stupid I cant even word my thoughts.......
God fucking damn it.
Anyway, here's what Bill Hick ends his show with... which was in part used in the end of the movie Zeitgeist:
This sums it up quite beautifully.

Anyway, here's what Bill Hick ends his show with... which was in part used in the end of the movie Zeitgeist:
The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride..." And we... kill those people. "Shut him up." "We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real."
Just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.
This sums it up quite beautifully.
The world... how I ...

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
I've decided not to watch the first Vampire Hunter D movie because I saw some pics of it... the animation is TOO inferior to my current norm... and I dont think I can stand it, no matter how much it is praised.
Bloodlust, however, has way better graphics than the original, it goes without saying... and the storyline much better... not as stereotypical as the original, anyway. I've always thought of vampires as awesome, so that's prolly why I liked this storyline a lot.
D is awesome as per usual... the depiction is beautiful... I love the parasite hand - with his quirky remarks (note that I watched the English version... and I enjoyed it... I usually hate English versions =P)
Fight scenes - just wow. Yes, vampires against each other... hawtness. XDDD *whispery heart* lolz.
My favourite line: old man: now get out of here, I'm getting tired. seriously - it makes sense with context. It's a heartfelt and humourous scene all at once ^^
Anyway, definite good experience.

Whispers of the Heart
耳をすませば (If You Listen Closely) is a movie by the infamous Miyazaki of Ghilibi Studio. It's a 1995 film and as expected, it is fantastic. The charm of the story and depiction of characters is first class. I absolutely loved the animation, and doubly loved the music, both the background soudtrack and Country Road (the japanese version more so). It's very instrumental and beautiful.
luv it ^^

Rush Hour 3
This. Movie. Is. Awesome.
Basically the action is as fantastic as usual. The scenery (paris) is beautiful. And the humour is altogether hilarious. I Love This Movie.
Both main characters are FANTASTIC.
There are two downs to this movie though - a) it was only 86 mins... -_- too short. b) the actress for that chinese girl canNOT act whatsoever... it was painful to watch her do her lines like she was trying so hard to remember them... -______- good thing she didn't have a big part in the movie, or else it might be ruined.
4.5/5 for this movie. wOOp!

Harry Potter 5
So I watched this movie on tuesday, yay it was cheap, and all I can say for the movie is: mediocre.
The special effects, where there were any (very rare indeed) were satisfactory, I mean... it's the kind of effects people nowadays would expect from a top budget movie such as this. The acting is horrid as per usual, hermione cannot act to save her life, and she's one of the main characters -__- jeez. Although the newcomers are pretty good, Luna's actress is surprisingly good, Bellatrix is very convincing and so is Umbridge. But with a main character like Harry, the acting is just horrid -__-
Story was okay, I suppose, I mean it's been a while since I've read the 5th book and it wasn't the most interesting part, although I did enjoy Sirius' part in the movie... so sad he died =(
All in all, it was okay, I mean, I wouldn't want to get the DVD or anything, but whatever.

Guns
today I was bored, like anything other day of the summer vacation, and I decided to watch some of the movies I had that I haven't had time to watch before. The first movie I watched was Bowling for Columbine - it's about guns and is slightly based on the columbine shooting. the clearest memory is that there are about 11 000 ppl who die from gun shots in USA every year, while in Canada there's 168 and UK 68 (numbers are a lil off but not by much) ... the cultures of most of the western world is about the same - they all have access to violent video games, heavy metal music, violent political backgrounds... but why is America so especially violent? The movie explains with a clip from South Park - which is hilarious "I luuuuv my gun" ...so in conclusion, I guess americans should stop being so crazy about their guns (many places make it law for all citizens to own a gun) ... without the means for violence, surely violence will decrease. "If a bullet cost $5,000, then people would think twice before killing others. - I'm gonna blow your fucking head off... if I had some money. I'm gonna get another job, save some money, then you're dead!"
Lolz, I luv comedians.
