I squint as if such a physiological action would elicit some profound concentration or enlightenment that would unveil a hidden part of my mind and provide me with the insight necessary for comprehension...

This applies to reading, listening, and other sensory actions...

It must come from my near-sightedness and how squinting has worked (somewhat) during its earlier stages. Sigh. The trickery of memory...
